Class 1b Varieties

The 24 specimens of Canterbury 1b coins found in the Brussels Hoard are present in a dozen varieties; i.e. there is a high degree of variation present, and it must be expected that other varieties exist which are not represented by the Brussels Hoard specimens.

Amongst the BH coins, those spelt with hEH are clearly scarcer than those spelt hEN.   Beards made of strokes are more common than those with pellets. The table below gives a guide to the Churchill and Thomas types.
