1b/1a Mule -Cut Halfpenny

No Moneyer (Nicole)

Obv: One can see the characteristic initial mark of a star over crescent moon - indicating class 1.  The full legend would read hENRICUS REX AN which indicates class 1b - and a rarer variety as usually 1b coins have "ANG" not "AN".

Rev: Complete legend would read LIE/TER/CI'/ANG - we just see the 3rd and 4th quadrants - this is a class 1a legend

C/T Type: L10

Notes:  This is an interesting metal detecting find shown to me for identification. Luckily we have the diagnostic half of the coin rather than the other half.  A rare coin indeed. There were only 5 such 1b/1a coins found in the Brussels hoard - and only one of these was of this particular type .
