There were 467 Newcastle pennies documented in the Brussels hoard publication, with only three classes represented: 3ab1, 3b and 3c; the latter being the least common. The four moneyers there were Adam of Blakedone, Henry of Carlisle, John Papede and Roger the son of William. Henry of Carlisle was the most powerful of these, and his coins are the most numerous in the Brussels hoard. Adam’s coins are the scarcest, based on the evidence from both major hoards.
Obv: Unusually, an off-centre strike has allowed the cut half to show the full bust.
